Overview

Send one-time passcodes via email to validate submitted email addresses.

What you need

Background

An email OTP (One-Time Password) is a temporary, single-use code sent to a user's email address for authentication purposes. This method is commonly used in two-factor authentication (2FA) or multi-factor authentication (MFA) processes. When a user attempts to log in to an account, make a transaction, or perform another action requiring verification, an OTP is sent to their registered email. The user then enters this code on the relevant platform to verify their identity. This adds an extra layer of security by ensuring that even if someone has access to the user's password, they would still need access to the email account to complete the authentication process.

Benefits

Using an email OTP (One-Time Password) provides several benefits, particularly in enhancing the security and convenience of authentication processes:

  1. Increased Security: Email OTPs add an extra layer of security beyond just a password. Even if a password is compromised, unauthorized access can be prevented as the intruder would also need access to the user's email account to receive the OTP.
  2. Ease of Implementation: For organizations, implementing an email OTP system is often easier and more cost-effective compared to other authentication methods, as it utilizes existing email infrastructure.
  3. User Familiarity: Most users are already familiar with email systems, making it easier for them to understand and use OTPs without needing additional training or tools.
  4. Accessibility: Since email is widely used and accessible on various devices, users can receive OTPs without needing specialized hardware (such as security tokens) or software (like authentication apps).
  5. Reduced Risk of SMS Interception: Compared to SMS OTPs, email OTPs are generally less vulnerable to interception through SIM swapping or SMS spoofing attacks.
  6. Integration with Account Recovery: Email OTPs can also be used for account recovery processes, allowing users to regain access to their accounts if they forget their passwords.

Considerations

While email OTPs are a useful security measure, it's important to consider that they are not foolproof. They should be part of a broader security strategy that includes strong, unique passwords and, where possible, additional layers of security.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the

"When inside of" nested selector

system.
