JotForm's Product Portfolio

JotForm offers a range of products designed to address different aspects of form creation and data collection. These include:

JotForm Tables: A collaborative workspace for organizing and managing data.

JotForm Smart PDF Forms: Interactive PDF forms that enhance user engagement.

JotForm Approvals: Workflow automation for streamlining approval processes.

JotForm Mobile Forms: Create forms and collect data on mobile devices.

Pros:

JotForm boasts several strengths that have made it a popular choice among users:

  • User-friendly: JotForm's interface is known for its user-friendliness, making it accessible even to those without extensive technical expertise.
  • Versatility: With various products and features, JotForm can cater to a wide range of use cases.
  • Integration: JotForm integrates seamlessly with a multitude of third-party apps and services, enhancing its functionality.

Having worked in non-profits for so many years, I often didn't have company access to software. Finding Jotform was a huge asset to me because I was able to create forms for community programs and grants without having to worry about the cost. Jotform is super user friendly and the account setup was quick. There are templates to choose from if you aren't super comfortable building your own form. I particularly like how I linked it to my e-mail and was able to get responses in real-time.

Cons:

  • Identity Crisis: JotForm has faced criticism for having an "identity crisis," as it has expanded its product offerings and shifted its focus from core forms and workflows.
  • Product Proliferation: With an array of products, JotForm may have lost sight of its core mission as a form and workflow solution, potentially leading to confusion among users. Those core features are lacking in customization from a logic and design perspective.

With any free program, there are always downsides. My biggest complaint about Jotform was the lack of customization in terms of format.

Design Flexibility

JotForm: JotForm is undoubtedly user-friendly, but it falls short in design flexibility. Users may find their creative ambitions stifled as JotForm's design options are somewhat limited. Customizing forms to match specific branding or achieving unique designs can be a challenging endeavor.

Feathery: Feathery takes design flexibility to new heights. With Feathery, you have the creative freedom to craft forms that align perfectly with your vision. Whether you're looking to create a visually stunning onboarding process or capture data in a highly customized manner, Feathery empowers you to achieve it all.

Case in Point: Lemonade's Onboarding Flow

Feathery's capabilities shine in its ability to recreate intricate and visually appealing onboarding flows, as exemplified by a demo video showcasing Feathery's recreation of Lemonade's onboarding process. This level of design finesse is challenging to replicate within JotForm's more limited design framework.

Brand Consistency with Themes

JotForm: Maintaining consistent branding across forms can be a challenging task with JotForm. While it offers design customization to some extent, comprehensive support for Themes and consistent branding may be lacking.

Feathery: Feathery understands the importance of brand consistency. It supports Themes, allowing users to define designs for common components and apply them consistently across forms. With Feathery, your brand's visual identity remains intact, ensuring a professional and cohesive appearance across all your form interactions.

Mobile Responsiveness: Optimal User Experience

JotForm: The mobile responsiveness of forms created in JotForm may have limitations, potentially affecting the user experience on mobile devices.

Feathery: Feathery places a strong emphasis on robust mobile responsiveness. Users have the flexibility to set specific styles or elements to appear exclusively on mobile devices. This attention to detail ensures that your forms not only look great but also provide an optimal user experience on smartphones and tablets.

Support for Custom APIs and Advanced Logic

JotForm: When it comes to integrating custom APIs and implementing advanced logic in your forms, JotForm falls short. JotForm users may find it challenging to prefill form data from external APIs or implement custom logic for tasks like creating dynamic dropdowns or validation rules.

Extract Information from Various Sources

Feathery's AI data extraction capabilities extend to a wide range of sources, including uploaded images, documents (such as PDFs and CSV files), and even voice inputs. This versatility eliminates the need for manual data entry, saving valuable time and reducing errors.

Feathery proudly stands as the only form builder that offers these advanced AI data extraction features. This unique capability positions Feathery as a frontrunner in simplifying data collection and processing.

Developer Features

JotForm: While JotForm is user-friendly, it may not offer extensive developer-centric features for seamless integration and customization.

Feathery: Feathery stands out with a suite of developer-focused features that empower users to integrate forms seamlessly into their existing systems and customize them to their specific needs. Here's why Feathery excels in this area:

SDKs for Integration

User Verification

JotForm: JotForm may lack comprehensive user verification features, potentially leaving forms susceptible to unauthorized submissions.

Feathery: Feathery takes form security and user authentication to the next level, offering robust User Verification options to ensure the legitimacy of form submissions. Here's how Feathery excels in this area:

SMS One-Time Passcodes

Feathery enables users to implement SMS One-Time Passcodes as a method of user authentication. This adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that only authorized individuals can submit forms.

Email Verification

With Feathery, you can require email verification as part of the submission process. This feature confirms the authenticity of users and their email addresses before allowing form submissions.

Google Sign-In

For seamless authentication, Feathery offers Google Sign-In integration. Users can log in with their Google credentials, enhancing the user experience while ensuring identity verification.

Scanning Government ID

In scenarios where strict identity verification is essential, Feathery allows users to scan government-issued IDs as part of the submission process. This is particularly valuable for industries like finance and compliance, where Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements must be met.

First-Class Support

JotForm: While JotForm provides support, it may rely on outsourcing, which can sometimes lead to inconsistencies in support quality.

The tight-knit integration empowers users to harness Salesforce data effectively, resulting in dynamically populated forms driven by Salesforce data and automatic record updates in response to form submissions.

  • Customization: Titanforms allows for extensive customization of forms based on Salesforce data fields and structures. This level of flexibility ensures that your forms align perfectly with your Salesforce data requirements.

Cons:

  • Salesforce-Centric: While Titanforms offers unparalleled Salesforce integration, its utility may be limited for those not deeply immersed in the Salesforce ecosystem. Users outside of Salesforce may explore alternative form-building solutions that better align with their requirements.

Paperform

Paperform is a versatile and user-friendly form builder that strikes the perfect balance between simplicity and robust customization options. It's renowned for its capacity to craft forms that not only serve their functional purpose but also captivate with their aesthetic appeal.

Offering many design choices, Paperform empowers users to create forms that align seamlessly with their unique branding styles.

Pros:

  • Aesthetic Customization: Paperform shines in the realm of form aesthetics, offering an extensive array of customization options. Users can effortlessly transform functional forms into visually appealing creations, making a lasting impression on respondents.

  • Seamless Integration: Paperform supports embedding forms on websites and seamlessly integrates with an extensive roster of third-party applications. This includes CRM systems, email marketing tools, and cloud storage services, ensuring that your form data flows seamlessly into your preferred workflows.

I've researched and used a few other solutions before discovering Paperform, and so far Paperform has been the only one that offered features and integrations that tend to all of my needs. I usually work with very long and complex forms and Paperform's simple interface makes it a lot easier. Also, Paperform communicates really well with Zapier, which was one of my main issues before I started working with it.

Cons:

  • Lacks Advanced Features: While Paperform offers a robust level of customization, it may lack some of the advanced features required for complex data processing. Organizations with intricate data needs might explore alternatives with more specialized capabilities.
  • Tiered Pricing: Paperform's higher-tier plans unlock additional features but may be priced at a level that could be less budget-friendly for smaller businesses or individual users. Careful consideration of your specific requirements is advisable when selecting a plan.

When I need to ask questions that have a lot of multiple-choice answers, it would be nice to have more customization options, like a dropdown with a search bar and such. I would also like to have an option to keep partial submissions for responders in case they lose connection or can't answer everything all at once, so they can start where they left off instead of having to start all over again.

Formstack

Formstack is a versatile online form builder known for its wide range of features and customization options. It provides users with the tools needed to create a variety of forms, including surveys, registrations, and order forms, making it suitable for businesses, educational institutions, and nonprofits alike.

Its user-friendly interface simplifies the form-building process, allowing users to create forms without extensive technical knowledge.

Pros:

  • Customization: Formstack offers extensive customization options, allowing users to create forms that align with their specific needs and branding.
  • Integration: It seamlessly integrates with numerous third-party applications, enabling users to connect their forms with other tools for enhanced functionality.
  • Templates: Formstack provides a library of form templates, making it easy to get started with various types of forms.

The biggest reason our agency went with Formstack was due to the all-in-one pricing. We have two offices that deal with varying amounts of document signatures, so we had to break away from our prior document esignature company, due to their requirement to choose in advance how many envelopes we wanted. It was easy for me to learn the Formstack system, and then in turn teach our two document specialists how to use it. The completion notifications are quick to be emailed to us.

Source: G2

Cons:

  • Pricing: While it offers a free trial, some users may find the pricing plans relatively higher compared to similar form builders.
  • Learning Curve: Despite its user-friendly interface, more advanced features may require some learning, especially for beginners.

One thing I've noticed recently is that reminder emails get sent to customers 5+ times in a row. So within a single minute, multiple notifications go out. Even in situations when we choose to cancel a form and NOT send notification to the customer, they still get notification in some cases, which causes confusion. We've been able to simply blame it on a system error, but this seems to have started happening only recently (within the past month) and hasn't been resolved yet.

Google Forms

Google Forms, a part of Google Workspace, is a free and user-friendly online form tool that has gained widespread popularity for its simplicity and versatility.

This platform empowers users to effortlessly craft various types of forms, including surveys, quizzes, and event registrations, all within the familiar Google environment.

Pros:

  • Simplicity at Its Core: Google Forms excels in its simplicity, offering an intuitive interface that makes form creation a breeze. Its straightforward approach makes it an accessible choice for users of all backgrounds.
  • Real-Time Collaboration: The platform supports real-time collaboration, enabling multiple users to work on forms simultaneously. This feature is particularly valuable for teams and educators looking to create and analyze forms together.
  • Seamless Data Collection: Google Forms seamlessly collects form responses and organizes them into Google Sheets. This integration simplifies data analysis and ensures that your data is readily available for further processing.
  • Integration with Google Ecosystem: Google Forms seamlessly integrates with other Google services like Google Docs and Google Drive. This synergy enhances workflow efficiency, allowing users to access form data and results within the Google ecosystem.

Google Forms is great when using it in a classroom setting or for capturing data on a website or blog posting. I feel it is less appropriate when using form for survey questions. Or trying to customize your on templates.

Cons:

  • Limited Advanced Features: While Google Forms offers simplicity, it may lack advanced features like conditional logic and extensive integration capabilities found in more specialized platforms. Organizations with complex form creation and data processing needs might explore alternatives with these capabilities.
  • Limited Customization: Google Forms provides limited customization options in terms of design and functionality. It may not be the best choice for branded or highly customized forms.

Perhaps the main disadvantage is the customization, definitely the templates available are very limited and the fonts are reduced.

Typeform

Typeform stands out with its contemporary and stylish interface, redefining the way users interact with forms. Its innovative design philosophy revolves around presenting one question at a time, resulting in heightened user engagement and a reduced likelihood of form abandonment.

Pros:

  • Engagement-Centric Design: Typeform excels in creating form experiences that are not only visually appealing but also highly engaging. This unique approach, focusing on one question at a time, keeps users involved throughout the form-filling process.
  • Perfect for Surveys and Quizzes: Typeform finds its niche in the creation of surveys, quizzes, and feedback forms that benefit from a personal touch. It's an ideal choice when user engagement and a pleasant form-filling experience are essential.
  • Integration Capabilities: Typeform seamlessly integrates with various CRM and marketing tools, amplifying its utility in data collection and gathering customer insights. This integration enhances its effectiveness in facilitating data-driven decisions.
  • Customization Options: The platform offers extensive customization options, enabling brands to design forms that align seamlessly with their visual identity. This flexibility ensures that every form is a reflection of the brand's unique style.

I love how easy it is to create a form that can be used across different platforms. We use it embedded on our website to collect data from users in the form of a quiz. We then use their quiz results for user insights and also to help guide them to the best product in our store.

Cons:

  • Complex Data Processing: Typeform may have limitations when it comes to handling complex data processing tasks. Organizations with intricate data requirements might explore alternative solutions with more specialized capabilities.
  • Only 1 design format supported (forms with one question at a time, text-only)
  • Limited in terms of complex data processing.
  • Higher cost compared to some simpler alternatives.

I wish there were more integrations with Shopify. Ideally we could collect customer data and have it directly imported in to Shopify rather than having to use Zapier which adds cost to our usage.

Cons:

  • Design Limitations: While Wufoo offers ease of use, design options may be somewhat limited compared to more advanced form builders. Users seeking highly customized form designs may want to explore other solutions.
  • Interface Appearance: Some users may find Wufoo's interface to be somewhat outdated in terms of aesthetics. However, its functionality remains reliable and efficient.

I'm not the biggest fan of the design. It's slightly outdated and not user friendly, especially for users that prefer a more modern look. The CSS option also isn't as flexible for customization so that's a bummer.

Cognito Forms

Cognito Forms is a formidable form builder tailored to users seeking advanced functionalities such as calculations, conditional logic, and data manipulation.

It excels in enabling the creation of intricate forms capable of handling complex workflows, making it particularly well-suited for tasks like registrations, orders, and in-depth surveys.

Pros:

  • Advanced Functionality: Cognito Forms distinguishes itself by empowering users to create forms with advanced features like in-form calculations, support for repeating sections, and the implementation of extensive data validation rules. These capabilities facilitate the creation of highly tailored and interactive forms.
  • Data Security: The platform places a strong emphasis on data security, offering robust encryption measures to safeguard sensitive information. This focus on security ensures that user data remains protected during form submissions and processing.

  • Custom Branding: Users can apply custom branding to their forms, ensuring a seamless integration with their website or brand identity. This branding flexibility contributes to a cohesive online presence.

Cognito has been easy to use from the get-go, from both a platform and a customer relations standpoint. The staff was very helpful in getting us up and rolling. We needed enterprise-level solutions but were getting priced out of our previous main platform. Cognito turned out to be a much more affordable solution.

Cons:

  • Learning Curve: While Cognito Forms empowers users with advanced capabilities, it may be less intuitive for beginners. Individuals new to form building may need some time to fully explore and leverage its extensive features..
  • No strong documents, e-signature, workflow or OCR offering

While the platform is easy to use, sometimes you do have to hunt and peck to find what you are looking for. The how-to guides are robust, but one or two videos might be needed, especially when it comes to sending responses automatically to other people. Also, there are two missing functions that I'm wishing for more than anything: the ability to import an electronic form into the platform (like Jotform does), and the ability to send responses to Google Sheets without having to use an intermediary like Zapier.

  • Data Protection: The platform places a strong emphasis on data protection, implementing robust encryption methods to safeguard sensitive information. With Formsite, you can rest assured that user data remains secure and confidential.

It's quick and easy to set up basic forms and have them operational. There is some flexibility related to plans, but the limits could be higher. The user interface is also easy but still looks outdated.

Shaun H.

Director of Information Technology

Source: G2

Cons:

  • User Interface: While Formsite boasts powerful features, some users may find that its user interface is not as modern or intuitive as that of competitors. It's important to weigh the functionality against the user experience to determine if it aligns with your specific needs.
  • No strong documents, e-signature, workflow or OCR offering

The competition is able to innovate faster with upgrades, user interface, and integration capabilities with other software at a pricing plan that makes more sense than Formsite. Formsite is okay for starting out, but the limits of the plans and outdated look and feel and functionality are tougher to overcome.

Cons:

  • Made for small businesses: very lacking in enterprise features such as SSO, roles, compliance, customization, etc
  • Zoho Environment Dependency: While Zoho Forms excels within the Zoho ecosystem, it is best utilized by users who are already part of this environment. For those outside of Zoho, the full spectrum of its features and integrations may not be fully accessible.
  • Third-Party Integration Limitations: Users seeking extensive third-party integrations outside of the Zoho suite may find that Zoho Forms has certain limitations. It's essential to evaluate your integration requirements to determine if Zoho Forms aligns with your needs.

Currently, Zohoform only allows integration with other Zoho products such as Zoho CRM. This means that if you're looking for a more diverse range of integrations with other popular tools, you may find yourself limited. It's crucial to consider your specific needs and ensure that Zoho Form aligns with your desired integration capabilities before committing to the platform.

Cons:

  • Free Version Limitations: While 123FormBuilder offers substantial value in its free version, users seeking extensive customization options may find the free plan somewhat limited. To access advanced features and customization, upgrading to a premium plan is recommended.
  • No strong documents, e-signature, workflow or OCR offering

Some of the forms only allow specific data to be added. There are times when we would like to customize it even further than what is permitted. However, while we have used the form-building software, they are constantly improving to add more features.

Cons:

  • Learning Curve: Due to its advanced features, FormAssembly may have a steeper learning curve for new users. However, the investment in learning the platform's capabilities can lead to substantial benefits in data collection and automation.
  • No strong documents, e-signature, workflow or OCR offering (that are needed for many enterprise use cases)
  • Pricing Structure: While FormAssembly provides comprehensive solutions, it's essential to consider its pricing, especially for enterprise-level requirements. Evaluating pricing plans to align them with organizational needs is advisable.

Email support is difficult, especially compared to chat support (which is phenomenal). The tool is incredibly powerful, so it feels complicated at times. I feel at times that I want to carve out a day to work in FormAssembly, but my schedule doesn't allow the big blocks of time that are required for bigger efforts. It is hard to take a big effort in FA and carve it up into tiny pieces.

Cons:

  • Survey-Centric Focus: While SurveyMonkey excels in surveys and related forms, it may not offer the same breadth of features for other types of forms. Users with a primary focus on surveys, however, will find it to be a compelling choice.
  • Tiered Plans: Some advanced features and enhanced analytics are available on higher-tier plans. Users should evaluate their specific needs against the plan offerings to ensure alignment.

It will be good if they can support near realtime syncing with Excel, Google Spreadsheets, AirTable kind of tools. At the moment all data needs to be exported and uploaded to respective tools.

Pros:

  • Seamless WordPress Integration: Gravity Forms seamlessly integrates with a diverse array of WordPress themes and plugins. This flexibility ensures that WordPress users can harness its full potential to enhance their websites.
  • Feature-Rich Functionality: The plugin doesn't hold back when it comes to features. It supports file uploads, custom post creation, and offers smooth integration with popular email marketing and payment services.
  • Developer-Friendly: Gravity Forms caters to developers and site owners who require more than just a basic form builder. Its developer-friendly nature allows for extensive customization and integration, opening doors for creating tailored solutions.
  • Vibrant Community and Support: Users benefit from a vibrant community and robust developer support, ensuring that assistance is readily available when needed.

Out of all of the Form builder plugins I've tried for WordPress, Gravity Forms has been my favourite for its range of features and options and reliability. It's easy to use and provides enough granular control over the different features.

Cons:

  • Exclusive to WordPress: Gravity Forms is exclusively tailored for WordPress websites and may not be suitable for non-WordPress sites. Users should ensure compatibility with their chosen platform.
  • Additional Add-Ons: While the plugin offers a wide range of features, some advanced functionalities and add-ons may require an additional purchase. Users should evaluate their specific requirements against the available add-ons.

Even with the paid Developer license, I feel like Gravity Forms could try to offer a bit more in terms of specialty form field types and when it comes to form design and styling. Of course, there's the ability to buy add-ons and extensions, but it's harder to justify that expense to clients or managers who don't quite understand what the expense is for.
